Custom models

Connect a supported provider model to Pixel using encrypted backend storage.

Add a custom model

In Settings, provide a display name, provider API type, HTTPS base URL, provider model ID, and API key. Pixel supports OpenAI-compatible APIs, Anthropic Messages, and Google Gemini through its custom-model adapters.

Credential handling

The API key is submitted to the backend and encrypted using the configured 32-byte PIXEL_CUSTOM_MODEL_ENCRYPTION_KEY. The browser does not receive the stored provider key. Custom-model storage requires that backend encryption key to be configured.

Network restrictions and capabilities

Custom model URLs must use HTTPS on port 443. Local/private network destinations and redirects are blocked. Custom models are not advertised as supporting vision or tool calling in the current implementation.

Use and remove a model

After saving, a custom model can appear among selectable models when available. Settings also provide management controls to remove a custom model.
